CSA Delivery: #8

May 14, 2010 at 9:12 PM (Healthy Living, Saving Money, Simplifying Life)

Please note that we will not be posting another delivery for 2 weeks due to travel and other various life happenings.  I just graduated with my Ph.D. this past weekend and our 1 year wedding anniversary is around the corner so we’ll be taking a much needed celebratory vacation.

This week’s CSA delivery contained a few new items:

  • Strawberries
  • Cabbage
  • Spinach
  • Lettuce
  • Onions (Aren’t they cute??)
  • Herbs
  • Sugar Snap Peas (Yummy!)

CSA Delivery #1: We’re In Love!

March 10, 2010 at 8:23 PM (Food, Gardening, Healthy Living, Saving Money, Simplifying Life)

Ben and I recently joined a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) group.  We paid to join over a month ago and have been eagerly anticipating the first pick-up.  If you’d like to read more about CSAs, you should start here. You can even search for one using your zip code.  CSAs provide a means to support local farmers and eat fresh, local produce.

We chose to join Farmers Fresh CSA. Each week, we will go to a local pick-up site and get our bounty. It truly is like Christmas!!  I could barely wait to open our box when we got home.  I grabbed my camera and didn’t hesitate to rip into the box.  Keep in mind that this week’s delivery included our member welcome kit so it is probably more adundant than usual.  Inside was a plethora of beautiful items including the following:

  • Raw honey
  • Butternut squash
  • Lettuces (Hydroponic red and green)
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Oyster mushrooms
  • Salad sprouts
  • Strawberries
  • Grits
  • Cornmeal
  • Rice
  • Mini bread loaf
  • Gourmet seasoned nut mix
  • Carrots
  • Fresh herbs and tea bag kit
  • Coffee
  • Pancake mix
  • Fabric tote bag
  • Hardcover recipe binder
  • Welcome letter
  • I immediately ate two carrots as I was unpacking everything.  I also sampled the gourmet nuts (delicious) and the oyster mushrooms which I’ve never had before.  I’m truly blown away and can’t wait to see what next week brings.  Check out your local CSA today!
