Memorable Moments

November 30, 2009 at 10:21 PM (Career, Family, Humor)

  1. Mailing off what I hope is my LAST tuition payment ever to Clemson.  $1095 for one credit hour.  Ouch!
  2. Watching Ben help our nephew Darius set up his first email account ever.  He’s 7 years old.
  3. Trying out Google Wave for the first time.  It’s different but I think it has incredible potential.
  4. Finally convincing Blair to start using Gmail.
  5. Seeing a package of empty snail shells sold with the snails themselves in a can.  Ugh!

Ben and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  We spent it in SC with his parents (Betty and Richard), our niece (Jazia), our nephew (Darius), and a couple of family friends.  We ate way too much food but enjoyed every minute.

I took some photos earlier in the week before we headed to SC…..

Beautiful fall trees….

Our beloved Stimpy….

We arrived in SC around 9:30 PM on Wednesday.  Darius had to show us his latest toys and his first ever karate trophy.   Jazia was also full of smiles. 🙂

On Thanksgiving day, we all pitched in with the cooking, played out in the yard a bit, and took lots of photos.  Ben also helped Darius set up his first email account which was a lot of fun.  We couldn’t have asked for a better Thanksgiving.

Suffering for Savings

November 24, 2009 at 10:37 AM (Saving Money)

I thought that some of you would like this blog post at one of my favorite blogs, Blogging Away Debt.

This article shows that a lot of people “suffer” to save money.  Check out the comments after the blog post!  Our gas bill was only $50 this month (and electric was $50 as well)!  That is quite the accomplishment considering our house has over 2,000 square feet.  Woohoo!  We’ve kept our thermostat set at a chilly 56 degrees.  Admittedly though, I think I might invest in a space heater for when I’m working in the office and taking a shower.

Believe it or not, I do think my tolerance is higher now.  I was walking around in a tank top when it was less than 60 degrees in the house.

How do you suffer to save?

Jon, Talissa, and Mazie came over for a bit on Sunday so I had to take a few snapshots. 🙂  I also captured some photos of the pets.
