Michael Jackson

June 27, 2009 at 9:32 AM (Inspirational, Music)

Like millions of other people, we are sad about the passing of Michael Jackson. His songs touched lives and he will not be forgotten. Everyone will remember him for some reason or another–some good, some bad. I particularly love the lyrics of some of his songs, for example, “Man in the Mirror” and “Heal the World.” I remember listening to “Heal the World” over and over and over as a kid. I still love it to this day.

In general, he was a great performer. He sang those wonderful lyrics with such passion that you couldn’t help getting entranced. How will you remember him?

Man in the Mirror

I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change

Heal the World

We Could Fly So High
Let Our Spirits Never Die
In My Heart
I Feel You Are All
My Brothers
Create A World With
No Fear
Together We’ll Cry
Happy Tears
See The Nations Turn
Their Swords
Into Plowshares

We Could Really Get There
If You Cared Enough
For The Living
Make A Little Space
To Make A Better Place…

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

A short and fascinating video about a Stanford study that examined children’s ability to delay gratification and what it may predict about them as adults.

Our Next Major Vacation: New Zealand?

June 24, 2009 at 9:04 PM (Travel)

Ben and I have already started discussing where we will go on our next vacation. We are strongly considering New Zealand. We are hoping to go during December 2010, which is the warm season there.  What are your thoughts?  Anyone want to go with us? 🙂

Parties, Windshield, Father’s Day, and Other Happenings

June 24, 2009 at 5:32 PM (Family, Food, Friends, Gaming, Holidays, Humor, Simplifying Life)

It’s been a while since we have blogged and that is because we’ve been SUPER busy.  We have been playing catch up and have been on the go ever since we got back from Alaska.  It has been fun though.

I went to NC the weekend of June 12 for our friend Donna’s wedding shower and bachelorette party.  I had a blast.  It was great being able to enjoy some girl time.  I spent the weekend with my mom and girlfriends.  I also got to spend some quality time with my brother and sister-in-law.  The only negative thing about the entire weekend was the fact that a rock hit my windshield on the interstate.  I do NOT have good luck with windshields.  Rocks have hit and cracked 4 windshields of mine in the past.  This one hurt the most since the car doesn’t even have 11K miles on it.

Ben’s  parents (Betty and Richard) and our niece (Jazia) and nephew (Darius) spent 3 nights and 4 days with us over Father’s Day weekend.  They arrived on Saturday and left yesterday (Tuesday).  We enjoyed a low key weekend together full of talking, playing, laughing, cooking, swimming, watching movies, playing games, and relaxing.  We also enjoyed a very frugal 4 days together.  We didn’t eat out at all and only went to get ice cream once.  Yay!

All in all, things have been great.  Our friend, Troy, will be visiting us this weekend.  Ben will get to enjoy a movie and gaming filled weekend and I’ll finally get to spend some tackling the Big D (dissertation)!  Next weekend we’ll be headed to NC for Donna and Daniel’s wedding.  What a great summer so far!

Enjoy the pics below!
