Yes, We Are Both Hyphenating

May 10, 2009 at 9:13 PM (Family, Relationships, Wedding)

Some of you already know this and some of you don’t.  Ben and I will both be hyphenating our last name when we get married 2 weeks from today (!!!!).  Our new last name will be Fishel-Brown.  Family unity is our primary reason for joining our names together.  While it’s uncommon for men to 1) hyphenate their last name and 2) take a woman’s last name, it isn’t unheard of.

I researched name changing information this week and was relieved to find out that Georgia is one of only a handful of states where men go through the same process as women to change their last name.  Were we still living in South Carolina, the process would be painful, tedious, and expensive.  Thank goodness we now live in Georgia!

I think it is cool that you are both hyphenating!! Will your kids have the hyphenated last name too?

Yes, our kids names will have hyphenated names. 🙂 They will probably hate
      us. LOL

I think it’s fine – quite a few people do that. Fortunately both of your have names well suited to hyphenation. If Richard and I had done it, we’d be the Beasley-Bralley’s – not too cool.

      hyphenation.
