Photo (and Video) of the Day: #10

February 27, 2009 at 8:55 PM (Pets, Photo / Video of the Day)

I had the house to myself tonight while Ben was at our friends Jen and Jesse’s house.  He and Jesse played games this evening.  I relaxed and hung out with the pets.  I observed (and captured with my camera) something that I have never seen before.  Peanut laid with Joey and Buddy in a chair as if to cuddle with them.  It was the cutest thing ever.  Check out the photo below.  I also captured a video.  Even Arya was calm and quiet.  It was nice!  Stimpy left the room as soon as I whipped the camera out so he is the only one not included.

Have a great weekend!

Weekend Happenings

February 22, 2009 at 9:03 PM (Food, Home Improvement, Pets, Saving Money, Simplifying Life)

How was your weekend?  Our weekend was ok.  Saturday we went shopping for a few essentials and browsed the clearance sections of our favorite stores.  We also went to Goodwill.  Ben wanted a couple of sports coats and found two that he liked for under $12 total.  I didn’t find anything while we were there.  We went to PetSmart.  They were having a huge pet adoption event so I was able to get my puppy fix.  So cute!  We also raked 11 huge bags of leaves from our yard.  There are still plenty where that came from.  We’ll be raking tons more next weekend.  While we were raking in the yard we let Peanut run around (attached to a stake in the ground).  He really enjoyed himself and of course barked at everyone that walked by.

In related news, we’ll be having our third and hopefully final tree removal round in a couple of weeks.  We’re having two large trees removed and 3 trees scaled back from our roof.  We hate spending the money but are looking forward to having this behind us.

Today (Sunday) was definitely uneventful for me.  I worked on a report that I have due at work tomorrow from 8: 30 AM until 8 PM.  Needless to say, I didn’t really have much of a Sunday.  Ben replaced all but one of the switches and outlets in our master bedroom.  We are happy to report that we will be getting bedroom furniture very soon which inspired us to finish the outlets and such.  Now if only we can solve the outlet/switch issue that we’re having in our living room.  That is the room that we originally started with and it still isn’t finished.  We are trying to avoid having to hire an electrician but it looks like we might have to.  Unfortunately we started with the most complicated room with regard to electrical wiring.  Ben easily and successfully finished the bedroom so it isn’t like he doesn’t know what he’s doing.  Our friend Jon suggested that it could be the breaker so we will try replacing that soon and see if it works.  Stay tuned!  We also made our meal plan for the week tonight.  We only have a handful of items on our grocery list for the week!  Woohoo!

We hope you have a great week!

First Dance as Husband and Wife

February 19, 2009 at 9:18 PM (Relationships, Wedding)

While I’m on a music kick tonight I thought I would write a post about the songs Ben and I are considering as our first dance song as husband and wife on top of the glacier in Alaska.

The first song is called So Amazing and is by Luther Vandross. The second song is called Just Because by Anita Baker. I absolutely love both songs. Which one do you like the most? Check out the songs below and then place your vote below:

Power of Love

February 19, 2009 at 8:42 PM (Inspirational, Music)

Do you have a song that you absolutely love and can lift you up no matter your mood? Tonight I was working on dissertation data and listening to music. My favorite song of all time started playing which inspired me to write this blog. That song is Power of Love by Luther Vandross. I’m a lyrics driven music lover and I absolutely love the lyrics of this song. The message of this song is extremely powerful and true.

It’s hard to put it in words. The song just moves and inspires me. I’ve posted a music video and the lyrics below. Coincidentally, Luther Vandross is one of my favorite artists of all time. Unfortunately, I became a huge fan after he passed away in 2005. I would love to have seen him in concert. Anyway, enough of me rambling. I hope you enjoy the song.

Power of Love

When I say goodbye it is never for long
‘Cause I know our love still lives on
It will be again exactly like it was
‘Cause I believe in the power of love

When you’re close I can feel the power
When it’s love I can always tell
Love for me is the best thing now
It’s something that I know so well

Hold me closer and every minute
Of every hour, feel the power of love, yeah
Hold me tighter and take me higher
And feel the fire of the power of love

Did you know that your feelings show
You thought your love was locked up inside
But when your senses start to overload
Love is something you should never hide

You’ve got to believe in love
It’s a feeling that’s next to none
Can’t stop until we are one
With the power of love

Tell everyone to try
I promise you’ll reach the sky
One thing that we can’t deny
Is the power of love

So close your eyes and you can feel it
Comin’ straight from above, it’s the power of love
You can’t deny it, so don’t even try it
Let the feelin’ sweep you off your feet

You’ve got to believe in love
It’s a feeling that’s next to none
Can’t stop until we are one
With the power of love

Tell everyone you see
How much better the world could be
For them and for you, for me
With the power of love

Ooh, ooh, ooh
My-my-my-my-my-my
You’ve got to feel the power
Yeah, yeah

So listen up and you will hear it
A symphony from above, it’s the power of love
So glad we’ve found it, now there’s no way around it
Just let the feeling sweep you off your feet

You’ve got to believe in love
It’s a feeling that’s next to none
Can’t stop until we are one
With the power of love

Tell everyone to try
I promise you’ll reach the sky
One thing that you can’t deny
Is the power of love

When we walk down the street
We don’t care who we see or who we meet
Don’t need to run, don’t need to hide
‘Cause we’ve got something burning inside, yeah

We’ve got love power
It’s the greatest power of them all, ooh…ooh…
We’ve got love power
And together we can’t fall, sing it with

We’ve got love (Love) power (Power)
It’s the greatest power of them all
Oh, we’ve got love (Love) power (Power)
And together we can’t fall, and all the good

(We’ve got love) Ooh, we’ve got
love (Power), yes, we do
(It’s the greatest power of them all)
(We’ve got love) Love-love-love (Power)
(And together we can’t fall) We’ll
never fall if we’ve got

(We’ve got love) If we’ve got love (Power)
(It’s the greatest power of them all)
(We’ve got love) Tell the world we
got love (Power) tell the people
about it
(And together we can’t fall) And it’s all
because we’ve got, we’ve got

We’ve got love (Love) power (Power)
Oh, it’s the greatest power of them
all and if you believe me
We’ve got more love (Love) power (Power)
And together we can’t fall, I know, can’t fall

We can’t fall (Love) when
there’s a love power (Power)
‘Cause it’s the greatest power of them all
